Access Inventory Database

            Inventory management is one of the most critical jobs of a company. Inventory space and inventory staff cost money. Proper inventory management helps to serve the customer in time, to fill the inventory in time, to know the accurate inventory status etc. Inventory system should be able to import and export information from other sources and locations. A successful business has a good inventory system.

  ‘Access Inventory Database' means an inventory management system using Microsoft Access software program. Access software provides built in templates. By choosing one of the templates one can create tables, queries, forms, and reports. This information generated by the access SW as per user requirement is called Access database.  The user data like barcode, items corresponding to barcode, name, unit price, and location etc. are filled and saved in the table. Queries are logical expressions that are used to find the status of an item of interest entered by the user. Reports are software generated pages of information as per user input and can be printed as hard copy. For simple uses like a home accounting and inventory a small database can be created and user can use the database to do the home inventory management.

            For commercial users that interface with many customers, equipments, different locations, many input and output sources a detail planned Access database /databases has to be created. Complex inventory management system can then be designed and programmed.

Access Inventory Database

The basic thing of an inventory management system is to create a database. An access database can be created by: using access wizard, using one of the access template, by using a blank database and follow one's design criteria to add tables, forms etc. The steps in creating an empty database are as follows:

. Click New on the Tool bar

. Then Click Blank database from the expanded menu

. A dialogue box appears, provide name and location of database

. Click Create

Database window is then displayed and one proceeds to create the database objects like tables, forms, queries, reports, pages, macros, and modules. A database project contains

            . Add data to objects

            . Create links to external source like excel, another database

            . Add, Modify objects

Many commercial Inventory Management SW are available that use Access Database. Access database SW for Microsoft Aceess2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2010 of Blue Claw Database Design is an example.
